✨ Why Ease-Aquatics S. repens?
Our Staurogyne repens is locally hardened for Pretoria's unique water conditions. It is grown to be bushy and compact right from the start. Because it is acclimated, it transitions faster than submerged-grown imports, helping you fill gaps in your hardscape in record time.
Advanced Technical Info
- Bushy Growth: Under high light, it remains very low. Medium light will cause it to grow taller, which is perfect for transitioning between a carpet and taller midground plants.
- Verticality Fix: If it grows too tall, simply snip the top. This forces the plant to push horizontal runners and side-shoots.
- Nutrient Needs: Loves a rich substrate. Root tabs are highly recommended if you are not using a specialized aquasoil.
- Aquascaping Utility: Its unique star-shaped leaves make it the ideal plant for "detailing" the edges of rocks or wood.
Care & Maintenance
- Trimming: ⚠️ Critical: Use sharp aquascaping scissors to prune the vertical stems. Re-plant the cuttings to expand your patch.
- Algae Protection: Its slow growth makes it susceptible to Green Spot Algae if light is too intense without enough CO2.
- Water Stability: Adapts well but prefers a stable environment. Avoid massive swings in CO2 or light levels.
How to Propagate
- Cutting: Snip off a healthy stem with at least 3-4 nodes.
- Planted: Strip the bottom-most leaves and push the stem into the substrate.
- Horizontal Spread: By keeping the main stems low, you encourage the plant to send out horizontal runners, creating a dense thicket over time.
✅ Is this for you?
- You want to hide the "transition" between your carpet and your rocks.
- You have medium to high light and want a bushy, textured foreground.
- You enjoy "detailing" and regular pruning to shape your scape.
